OUR WORKS

Uhol_92 was founded in February 2017 as theatrical association for young artists. Name refers to a belonging to the first generation born in an independent democratic Slovakia. From this point of view, members of Uhol_92 analyse the present.

Our productions are largely inspired by non-dramatic texts and author’s texts. We usually work with specific, current public theme that echoes in the public.

HAPPY END

Original title: Happy End
Theatre-concert where Greek myths meet 00 hits.

Feminism, dubious humanism of Europe or the search for positive masculinity - these topics are quickly and deeply explored by characters who came out of ancient myths and pop culture of the 20th century. Do we recognize ourselves in their archetypal stories?

TONI WOLFF...

Original title: Toni Wolff zisťuje, že prerobila milióny
How much do your scientists make if you pay charlatans so well?

They’re everywhere. The (online) world is suddenly full of them. Moderns gurus - they’re here for us, for our good. They help us to find our lost femininity, to give us strength, to cure us... They offer us beautiful photos, attractive words, harmonious melodies, vaginal eggs, webinars, seminars... But what would Toni Wolff, lead female psychoanalyst, colleague and lover of Gustav Jung say about it?

IN A CALM VOICE

Original title: Tichým hlasom. In A Calm Voice

“A single whisper can be quite a disturbance when the rest of the audience is silent.”
― The Tsar of Love and Techno

Operating between an exhibition of biographies and a living audio-library, this project creates a space for an encounter with five people. They invite us on unique journey: from the dangerous streets of Jakarta of '98 you will be transported to the Kyiv Maidan full of songs and to a Siberian town, where the decision whether to protest or not is influenced by your payroll. In the square full of trees, where the paths converge to the middle, dreams of the future are heard. Will we be willing to protest for them?

HUMILIATED AND BLOODTHIRSTY

Original title: Ponížení a krvilační
I imagine humankind like fleas on a map.

Play touches the subject of the eternal mechanism of power. Why are we still subject to self-appointed saviors? Why do we tend to believe that someone will miraculously solve our problems? And later, when we give the power to those “righteous”, how hard is it to find the strength to stand up against them?
It is a "mosquito-against-elephant" struggle, as written by the humanist Castellio in the 16th century, when he himself was harassed by the tentacles of the Calvinist theocracy. Contemporary theatre meets electronic live-act. Based on the book The Right to Heresy: Castellio against Calvin by Stefan Zweig.

I am standing here, like on a visit.

A theatrical diptych in the scenery of gallery exhibition, where director Alžbeta Vrzgula enters a one-sided dialogue with the work of her father, painter Marko Vrzgula. The play confronts the daughter's world with the adult world of a young woman.

OBJECT YOU

Original title: Objekt Ty, 2020
Too many words about love.

A mosaic of relationships, based on the plays Anatol and La Ronde by Arthur Schnitzler. Where does love disappear? Play about the search for truth and depth in the times of emptiness.
With humor about false projections and self-deception. About confusion of feelings with a fetish.

Study of desire for a home as the deepest, innermost feeling of all of us.

By staging life in a camp of two people on the run, two refugees combined with stand-up parts of Iranian comedian Nasi Motlagh, who lives in Slovakia for nine years, we are addressing to public a call for awareness. We invited our public to charitable gala evening and made them spectators of other’s lives.

ROMULUS V.

Original title: Romulus V., 2019
The state calls itself “Homeland” whenever it is about to kill.

A historicizing provocation with two actors, a life jacket and one dilemma: a catastrophic capitalism or a capital catastrophe?
We invite all Romans to recapitulate the destruction of one civilization. Note: It won't be tragic. Only those who are helpless can understand the comedy.
The production is inspired by the play Romulus the Great by Friedrich Dürrenmatt.

APOKABARET

Original title: Apokabaret, 2019
Global warming and burnout pose an equal threat to everyone, regardless the age, origin, sexual orientation, or faith.

What if there will be no one to colonize another planet? Theatre, music and apocalypse enter for an evening session on a terrace of a bar. The last of the kind meet there: Hedgehog, Rabbit, Frog, Earthworm, and Drone.
Apokabaret uses different genres to remind of ecological threats in the near future. It comments on civilizational ills to which we jointly indulge, with cathartic humor.

FOLKLORE NOT WAR

Original title: Folklore not war, 2018
What is the message our great great grandparents left us?

Theatre – dance production that draws from the memories of Slovaks on the Great War (WWI). In this performance, the folk culture material acquires contemporary sound and movement acquires new shape. The war didn’t always happen “to them” and “over there”.
The production was made to mark the centenary of the end of WWI. Folklore Not War intends to bring together world – the old and new, so that the new one doesn’t forget to be en guard.

IMMERSED

Original title: vNořen, 2018
“I believe that I am, first and foremost, a human being – like you," Nora Helmer.
So, be. Be human, that’s all right. Of course we’re feminists, but …

MeToo campaign. Nora. Dior. We should all be feminists. Shall we be dealing with this topic in the 21st century? Cause everything is pretty much sorted out. We have equality, equal suffrage, paternity leave ...What else is there?
The humanistic play by Henrik Ibsen is deemed to be the celebration of feminism. In our production the text expands and when turning inside, it creates atmosphere of a sardine can.

BORDERS_92

Original title: Hranice_92, 2017
About the definite end of childhood. A confession of latent revolutionaries.

A production about answers to questions we wish to ask ourselves only tomorrow.
The children of the 1990s are now turning into adults who will be determining further fate of the society. Borders are the leitmotif: inner and outer borders, the self-imposed, as well as those imposed by the wider community.
